My weekend project is almost complete. This S&W Model 18 was a mess when I bought it, with almost no blue remaining. The rust pits were too deep for a blue job to look good, and I wanted to keep the original markings. So, I polished it pretty good, degreased it, and sprayed it with VHT header paint, from my local auto parts store.
I was originally going to use the Duplicolor black engine paint, but they only had white. Who paints their engine white? Anyway, I tried the VHT Flameproof header paint, and after 3 stages in the kitchen oven, (this stuff stinks, BTW), this is what I ended up with.

The screws, crane, cylinder latch, rear sight, and ejector rod still need to be re-finished. I am of the belief that a weekend project can be considered successful if it actually functions, and is 95% complete. I think this one qualifies.
