I was recently thinking of doing an AR build with a wood stock and a blued upper and lower (I saw someone post something about doing this so I can't take the credit for thinking of the idea, but I sure like it). I looked into doing this, but from what I have read it is impossible to blue aluminum, because it is a reaction that only happens with steel or something. Is there any alternative to bluing that produces the same visual results? Thanks.

Gabe

ETA: Can you anodize to get the same effect?

I think Norell's has a gloss dark blue color in Moly Resin.

I would think you could get close to looking blued if you highly polished the upper and lower, no sandblasting, then maybe adding a little dark blue to the black dye.  If you look at Focuser's Site they show some glossy anodizing.

Is it their "Gun Blue" color? Do you have pictures of it on a gun, and does it actually look like blueing?
