So what did I buy? I was out of town having the grand kids spend some time with their grandparents. Stopped by the local gun store just to poke around. Asked to see a couple rifles I was looking at for my sons first hunting rifle. Guy behind the counter shows me the American Compact. Looked good, went to round up the kid and have him shoulder the thing. Fit well, weight was good and they had one in .243. Price said $389, offered $340. Walked out with the rifle for $350.
Impulse purchase, but filled a need. I plan to put a Leupold fixed four power scope on the thing. Did I do OK? |

Yes, they are Tonka tough.
Just loc-tight all the scope mounts. Ours had a break in period of about 60 rounds before the groups really closed in. It's a one inch gun with good ammo. Don't hot load it if you are reloading for it. Max loads did not group well with heavy bullets. The stock scratches easy, but spray paint and mesh lace will fix it's ugly when I get sick of the scratches. Enjoy. |

| Have a full size in 308. Amazing rifle for the money. If I do my part its an honest one moa rifle. Soft shooting, especially for a light weight 308. The first mag I had for it developed a chip; Ruger replaced it without any fuss. Trigger is perfectly acceptable for a hunting rifle. They are adjustable, I haven't touched mine. You did fine on price. |
