I recently had a bad ezperience with UMC 230gr ball ammo. I was curious if there are any other cartridges I should avoid when using a suppressor. I am including bullets in this. How are the copper plated bullets?

That's kind of a broad question, but in order of importance:

1. Stability (does the bullet stabilize in your gun) to avoid baffle strikes
2. Feed/Function reliability
3. Subsonic (if applicable)
4. Cleanliness - both the powder, and bullet type to reduce lead buildup

What issues did you have with the UMC?

I had a jacket seperation that blew my endcap off.  I know it is a broad question. I was curious if there were any types of ammo that are weak jacketed.

I know I the Spectre II you can't use the Aguila SSS 60gn ammo...says it in the included manual...

I have eard the winclean ammo is a bad idea due to jacket seperation. I have no experience with this one though.  I have read somewhere there is a 9mm 158gr load that is not a good idea. I am not referring to the fiocci load.

I wouldn't use anything that is copper plated instead of FMJ, because I've seen bits of plating all over the gun range. As a general rule I don't use UMC or Thunderbolts--pretty much anything Remington--as I've had numerous problems with them.

Copper electroplated bullets include:

- Speer Gold Dot bullets/ammo

-Federal Fusion rifle ammo including loadings is several rifle calibers over 3,000 FPS

-Speer lawman and blazer ammunition

There is nothing inherently wrong with electroplated bullet technology.  However, some bullet makers use much thinner plating than Federal or the plating on the excellent Gold Dot.  And too many reloaders over-crimp plated bullets, leading to bad accuracy and plating damage.

As far as ammo to avoid, any ammo with an exposed lead base will leave some lead in the can.  JHPs and plated bullets do not have lead exposed on the base.

Unless you have a 1/9 twist barrel (reg 22LR is 1/12 or maybe 1/14) I would not shoot these with ANY suppressor.

1:16 twist on most all .22LR barrels, with very few exceptions.

I avoid any .223 ammo with bullets lighter than 50 grains when using my Gemtech Trek with a 1x7 barrel.

For rimfire ammo, I avoid all Remington ammo.    Filthy dirty and accuracy is sub par to horrible.

Thanks I couldn't remember the exact twist!
