Sorry, I know this comes up quite a bit, but I could not find an answer to my specific question. So I turn to you who know more than I do.
I just put my forms in the mail. I have purchased a SBR from a builder, and he helped me to complete my form 4. On the form 4 he listed the barrel length as 10" and the OAL as 26". I am running a 10.5" upper with a UBR. This got me thinking, and I believe the OAL is more in the area of 30". So here is my question. Once the stamp comes back, should I then just send a letter to the ATF notifying them of a permenant change? Or should I leave it as is? The company owner told me that this is the way he fills them all out and never has any issues with it. I know this comes up quite a bit, but I just want to figure out the best solution for this situation. I spoke with a firend today who had a rifle built by a very well known rifle maker. His is a 10.5 and they listed his OAL about 1.5" shorter than it is on the form 4. No issues with the ATF on it. Thanks, Adam |

I'd leave it as is as well.
The ATF 'asks' that any perm changes you 'let them know' but you are not required to by law. They are really only interested in it is a SBR or it is not an SBR. Plus, like many stamped SBR's, you end up with more than one upper for it anyways :) |

I'm going to keep my current upper but I'll build a new one for the SBR. I would love to have individual SBR uppers in 5.56, 9mm, and eventually a 300BLK. On the form, it wants to know barrel length and caliber. Do I need to list ALL calibers I would build or just list the 10.5" and 5.56 as that will be the first one that I build? Thanks. And I don't mean to hijack Quoted:
My first Form 1 had a 10.5" barrel and listed OAL of 26.25" and I eventually found out the ATF wanted an open or extended stock measurement listed. It was approved rather uneventfully. So it doesn't matter if you do an extended OR collapsed measurement? |

For barrel length put the length you will first build it as, ATF only needs to know when you PERMANENTLY change the length (which can't really be done on an AR since you can always swap uppers). As far as overall length goes IIRC it's with the stock extended, but ultimately doesn't matter since once it's approved it's allowed to be short than 26", besides, the OAL will change when you change barrel length. |

I appreciate it. I've been trolling all of the SBR threads lately and I feel I have my questions answered. Now I just need to do this stuff. I still need to look at the Form 1 and figure out how and where to do the finger prints but I feel most of my questions about filling in the Form 1 are answered. of course I'll have plenty more once I start the process. |
