Sigh.
This is probably the third time I've asked about various mills that I see for sale on Craigslist. I was too late to snag a couple decent ones and passed on a couple others. (For hobby/ garage use on various smallish steel projects) Anyway, a guy in Brookfield WI has a TREE vertical mill that looks pretty nice, and in the lower edge of the price range similar mills seem to go for around here. ($2500) Another in Waukesha for the same price and both look very clean to me. Anbody particularly like or dislike Trees? IIRC, they were once considered top shelf? (Tier1) Should I worry unduly about getting parts? Thanks in advance, (Again!). Take a look if you care to. Craiglist, Madison,WI search in Tools under "Mill" and they should come up with pics. (I prolly shouldn't link.) |

If you have room for it in your garage, get it.
It's local and the guy has offered to load it for you on a weekend. You'll save $500 on shipping - likely more. It's a real mill. You need to stop quibbling, buy something, and deal with it. I was in the same situation for several years. I finally bought a Millrite from New York, sight unseen, thanks to a lead from a fellow memeber. I uncrated it last week and have no regrets. You could wait some more and maybe find something for $500 less or more. Overall, that'll be insignificant given what you'll spend on tooling, electrical, and gun stuff anyway. I wouldn't have room for a machine that size. What's wrong with the Tree in Cedarburg? He'll load it, he's asking less, and it comes with a vise and drill chuck - both of which will cost several hundred bucks. **if you want something smaller, SAG has a Rockwell on ebay for $2800. They'll possibly take a few hundred less if you call them directly instead of working thru Ebay. I got mine from them and they were great to work with. |

I agree with T-800 Overall height and power requirements shouldn't be forgotten. If this one works for you, GET IT. the couple extra bucks will be negligible a lifetime from now. |
