Yes the lenses are swapped. Anvis 6 lenses have the focus ring that turns. Anvis 9 lenses have the lobes on the lens and the whole lens turns. I have had both, and as far as which glass is better, couldn't tell ya. Don't guess I ever noticed a difference.
I also prefer the single knob interpupillary adjustment of the anvis 6. |

The post above yours confirmed that my AVS-9 Objectives are on an AVS-6 bridge.
I actually prefer the AVS-6 bridge. I like the Anvis 9 Objectives, but I'm not sure I'd want to risk not being able to use a LIF, or Sacrificial Window, which my AVS-6's take without modification. I also like that the Objective lens does not rotate - so I can use a compass. The only problem is that the parts for the AVS-6's are pretty damn hard to find. I had to beg and beg to find the parts to complete my objectives. What exactly is a "hardened" Anvis 9? |

would you really need a lif on them as the silver cuts out anything below infra red (apart from a small window for cabin illumination) and the lif does reduce performance slightly , also the transition lenses are more compact.
if you put the avs9 lenses on your '6' and the '6' lenses on your avs9 then you will have a proper avs9 with 2 ip. adjusters and an original avs6 with one and correct lenses (i like the avs6 too) |

For those that are interested I found this pdf of what appears to be a magazine article about some of the different aviation NVG's, including different spectral blocking ranges to block out the instrumentation lights in various aircraft, or to provide notch filtering to see important warning lights.

| There seems to be a lot of confusion about what makes a unit a ANVIS 6 or 9. It really comes down to how the lens works. If the entire objective rotates when you focus it, you have ANVIS-9 lenses, if only the knob rotates you have ANVIS-6 lenses. Both types of lenses an be had in a few different configurations, I have ANVIS-6 and ANVIS-9 lenses that look like TheHorta's. Likewise, both types of housings (ANVIS 6 and 9) an be had with single IP or dual IP. The ANVIS-6 is not the 'older' system that was replaced by the ANVIS-9, the ANVIS-6 is the Army's current aviation goggle. |

oh thank for you clearing this up.
I was under the impression it was the other way around, which is sad, because I picked up that impression from internet misinformation. lol. So 100% of Anvis AVS-6's have translating lenses, where the Anvis AVS-9's have lenses that rotate? |

I cannot say definitively that 100% of AVS-6's have translating lenses but everyone that I am aware of does/has. This is to allow those units to use the HUD units (AVS-7 and new versions) that many rotary wing aircraft employ. Hope that helps! |

well thats put me right also - i thought the first avs9 lenses rotated but now they had moved to the stationary ones for the 9's too, but i could sometimes not see how folks were saying avs6 or avs9 when they sometimes can seem identical
i have some where the lens rotates but all the newer ones i see have the "avs6" type lens stationary but with the 4 lugs- nice to know though |
