I have a Winchester 1894 in .30-30 that I'd like to start using again for deer hunting, but I despise the buckhorn rear sight. Does anyone here have any experience with these, good or bad? https://skinnersights.com/collections/winchester/products/universal-barrel-mount-peep-sight |

I have Skinner sights on my levers... but i used the scope mount tapped threads on the receivers for the rear sights. I like them! |

Mine has tapped holes on the side of the receiver, so that's probably an option. I've never looked into those, and always just thought it was a one-off job done for some mount that disappeared long ago. I'm hesitant to limit myself with the shorter radius of the barrel mounted peep, which is why I asked in the first place. I don't want to spend the money on one and install it only to find out that it's a poor solution. How sturdy are the tang mounted sights? I'd worry about them getting snagged on brush and whatnot. |

| I tried one of the bbl. mounted peeps but it just didn’t work with MY eyesight. I had several different size apertures but none of them helped. I use peep sights mounted near the rear of the receiver on a number of my rifles and do fine with them. It’s that forward position that goes wonky. |

| Not the Skinner barrel mount, but I have the Marbles Bullseye sight on a few guns. I do hunt with these and can attest that they work well. Especially if you use a fiber optic front sight or put some color on your current bead. I have looked at the Skinner version but after using the Marbles I don’t think it would be an upgrade for my use. The Skinner is classy looking and I would recommend getting a few other size peeps if you go that route. |

I too despise the buckhorn sight. Don't have the Skinner but do have a Williams. Works great but isn't "traditional." It's not a collector but a shooter so doesn't bother me. For a long range old fashioned rifle a tang sight is awesome, but a receiver mounted peep is faster and sleeker. For a carbine, I prefer receiver mounted. |

My near sight is pretty terrible but somehow, the peep mounted that far away still works for me. I can definitely see how it wouldn't work for others. I bought the gun online and honestly, I expected it NOT to be useable once I was able to try it out. |

I have skinner barrel mounted peeps in two of my Rossi 92s. The sight radius is pretty short on the 16” carbine but it still works well out to 100 yards. I would get the Wyoming Sight tool Skinner sells as it makes drifting and installing dovetailed sights easy. I have old man eyes and a peep makes a huge difference. |

I use the Williams side mounted peep posted above. It's the best for adjustability I think. Note that the Skinner sits higher because of the mounting base and may require a different front sight. I find the barrel mounted peep on my Ruger PCC to be useable but I can certainly understand why folks would find it difficult to focus on. |

| There is at least one WWII military rifle that had sights like that. I think it was Japanese. Never seen one in person, just pictures. I just can't see it working well but what do I know? Never tried one. |
