| Here is the situation, I have been shooting SMK 168gr BTHP .308 for years & have loaded Nosler BT for hunting. I noticed Berger has 168gr hunting bullets that look similar to the SMK and they state that the bullet is as accurate as a target round and suitable for hunting.....anyone have experience with these bullets? |

They sure have branded their bullets Match Hunting VLD, and well a good deal of them are sold. Especially for long range earsplittenloudengoboomer crowd.
Hunting with match bullets is done, but hey let's face facts there are plenty of good hunting bullets out there. Barnes Triple Shock, Nosler Accubond, Hornady SST, and good old Sierra 165gr BTSP is sure going to a very close cousin to the SMK. |

I have been using Berger Bullets for a few years, and they use to tout their match bullets as suitable for hunting, which they were/are. To eliminate confusion they now box the same bullets in an orange box and call it their "hunting" line. Berger bullets are second to none as far as accuracy goes, with all things being equal. |

I wondered about that (in blue),I figured that they may make the jacket a little thicker on the "hunting" bullet, never the less the thought of hunting with a match grade bullet sounds intriguing, I think I'm gonna have to give Sinclair a call & work up a load. |
| On deer-sized game from various magazine reports say they work very well. There is a slight delay before some very good expansion, which often doesn't happen with match bullets - some theorize that this is due to the VLD nose profile, because it lets the bullet get into the boiler room before it does its work. Although he was very skeptical at first, the former editor of Hunting magazine, and one who certainly experiments with a lot of different hunting bullets, was impressed by their performance after shooting a lot of game in New Zealand with the .30 VLD bullet. |
