Can you keep a copy of approved form 1 or do you need to have the original with the firearm at all times?

The original goes in a bank safety deposit box and you keep copies with the firearm.

Yes, some folks keep them at home in the safe or something, but the safest place is a bank safety deposit box, particularly in the case of a transferable machine gun.  Bank safety deposit boxes are cheap.

Why does it matter?  Well, not too long ago someone posted on here about a friend's basement getting flooded and the paperwork for his collection of transferable machine guns was in the bottom of his safe and was now waterlogged.

I just got my first approved Form 1 today and I went out and made 12 color copies of it this afternoon.  It will be inside a bank vault within a week.
