Just wondering if the SS barrels, not bull, are anymore accurate than the blue barrels?

Thanks!

In for folks experiences. We've got traditional blued and a stainless bull barrel. One obviously shoots better than the other, but both are getting sold off. T1x and 457 will replace them.

One of my sons has a blued barrel and the other one is getting a new 10/22 for his bday next month. I'd like to know which to get him.

I have several 10/22s and the biggest difference *I* notice is that the SS barrels seem to be better at not flinging the first shot somewhere else than the blued ones.  With my blued barrels, I can get perfect looking 9 shot groups with one "flyer" consistently.  The SS barrels are not as bad.

In. Why would it matter, as long as both barrels are built the same with the same reamer and rifling?

Here is a fun read - guy took two 10/22's - one blued, one stainless and shot them in the stock configuration, and then did mods to see what did/didn't work.

Rimfire Cental - Ruger 10/22 step by step.

Happy to help.

There was a Part 2 to that 10 years after...  10/22 Step by Step - Part II

It’s the finish work that matters and when you are talking about low level OEM stuff it’s going to vary enough that the material is irrelevant.

I can’t remember the name but there was a Smith on rimfirecentral that used to get amazing results by setting back factory barrels and recutting the chamber to something more accuracy oriented. It was pretty cool seeing before and after results with numerous factory barrels. Made me realize that’s a huge difference with high end barrels not just better barrel material and tolerances.

I know there are others, but Randy at Connecticut Precision Chambering (CPC) is very well respected.

If you going with stock barrels, Randy says blue barrels post 2009 manufacture will give the best accuracy.

OST as I consistently get 1 flyer out of every 10 rounds from my 10/22 Target and it really triggers my OCD.

Those are some good prices.

Might send them a trigger, cheaper than a BX trigger.

Think I had him ramp a bolt for me a million years ago. He’s had a good reputation as long as I can remember.
