Anyone have one? Looking at the 3-12x42mm 336 core 60 hz version. Seems to be a good buy for the money. Wanting another handheld thermal to accompany my gun mounted one. Not able to justify a $6000 unit right now though.

It's the same design/housing as the Zeus which is a very proven design thermal systems. I've considered buying one myself it's a lot of bang for the buck and uses FLIR Tau 2  core  also very proven -

Good deal.  I figured it was like the zeus.  Seems like good features for the money.

Yep there's not a lot of viewer choices in that price range with bigger lens (42mm). I like the bigger lens when doing a lot of viewing 50-500 yards out in more open county as it makes a world of difference in being able to ID critters at longer ranges. The only other choices that I can think of would be the Pulsar mono's maybe the HD/XD38 and HD38/50 models. Personally, my favorite "all around" viewer would be around 2X as it gives you that little extra viewing range/ID along with  good enough FOV for close in viewing. I have  1X, 2X and 4X viewers right now and I nearly always head out to the field with the 2X model. The 1X and 4X are used more for specialized hunts/needs be it close ranges heavy timber/tactical use(1X) or really long range open areas (4X).

I think the 42mm is about right for spotting.  Most of my fields are a max of maybe 700 yards out from where I'd be scanning.  I have a 38mm rifle thermal for the shot and I also have a TNVC PVS14 that I wear on a helmet for better identification before I shoot.  So far been a pretty good setup but I'm looking forward to having both a handheld and gun mounted thermal.

Anybody else have any experience with this unit?
