I'm in the military and I am an LEO; so I have my own personal IBA with SAPI plates and my own MICH helmet. Is always good to have your own personal TA-50 in case of trouble.

I would rather make the investment and never need it, than find that I needed it and didnt have it.  Even for rifle classes, ect...

I am also in the military and buy my own armor.
I had the new USMC helmet before anyone at this command and I had my own ESAPI plates before they were issued out here. Hopefully I will never need any of it but I figured it was kind of like buying life insurance.

Sooner or later some one is going to say we can't have it  , well to bad .

Figure I might as well get some while I still can.  Can't hurt to take with me to carbine classes either.  If I catch a hot one, it will more than pay for itself.

Served in the Corps for 6 years, now I'm LEO.  I'm also a NRA L.E.A.D Firearms Instructor and wear armour at the range (Just in case!)  I keep my gear in my trunk in case of an Active Shooter scenerio....

I like to own everything Im issued, so if something new comes out, I get one for the house too.  As far as the IBA goes, all I havent been able to buy online so far was the side sapi plates, got my daps in the mail the week I flew out here.

More like something I 'wanted' but with your poll 'needed' will have to do.

I bought some so I could shoot it.  It's inexpensive on ebay and the results of my test firing surprised me.  The next to newer Kevlar stopped 50 ae, though the punch would prolly blow up your insides without the need to penetrate, it stopped stinger 22's from a rifle, but not .22 hornet. Buy it and shoot it, its great.

I participated in a ballistic study with a major body armor maker when I was a LEO at little over 10 years ago. We took the oldest most abused dept. owned vests we could find put them on torso's made of ballistic gel. and shot the crap out of them with everything carried by our department, except for rifles. They still stopped every round put through them as if they were new. Most were several years beyond their expiration date. It was fun to shoot up all of those vests too.
Sorry didn't mean to highjack the thread

Military and LEO.  Buy my own and am issued from Army and Department.  Got to say when you need it and don't have it, don't come complain to me that you weren't able to buy it.  Just wait til we won't be able to purchase it anymore.  Than see who starts complaining.

Eventually body armor sales will be banned to all civilains.  Same as the NEXT weapons ban is sure to happen soon.  Join NRA and stop all this.

I too am LE, and have both soft vests I have been issued.

I also plan on getting hard level 3 armor as well in case of a situation at work, or in case of other emergencies - like zombies.
