Show of hands how many here aside from me run an armor based hydration system?

What do you think is better an individual pack based system or a system that mounts to your armor?

I prefer the armor system due to the fact that if I don't need to take my 72 hour ruck I have everything I need if I'm going out for a short period of time.

I've seen a lot of people using pack based systems but I don't think I've seen anyone with an armor based hydration system.

I use an RBAV-AF, my hydration bladder sits in a build in pouch in the back of my armor carrier.

Proof is in the pictures!

I hate hydration systems. There is nothing worse than sucking on a piece of rubber that was just dragged through dusty goat shit only to get a warm mouthful a moldy/plastic infused clear liquid that you refilled from 5gal water jugs you've never seen be cleaned. I hate them.

When I carried one it would always be in a ruck or an assault pack, but it was only because it was mandatory for us to have the hose hanging out of the bag. I always drank from a nalgene or disposable bottles.

You won't be able to sit comfortably in a vehicle. You won't get bags to sit well on your back. The hose is just one extra cord to get tangled in your radio crap or your sling.

I have one on my plate carrier, but its normally empty. I always think I will take the bladder out of my ruck and put it in the plate carrier if I want to get light, but I never seem to do that.

I'm thinking of switching to 1L Source canteens. They would be easy to pull out of a pack and put in a belt-mounted canteen pouch (easier than trying to put a 2L hydration bladder in the back of my plate carrier)

I've tested a lot of different pouches on the market but in the end I feel that a hydration bladder on the carrier may not be for me. Having the bladder on the back makes sitting uncomfortable and the hose getting in the way of my shit is annoying. I have to say that small hydration pouches (1 liter or less) have yielded favorable results though.

Out of all the brands that I've tried (LBT, FirstSpear, Eagle) I would say that the LBT-6142A is my favorite. I've never been a fan of having 3 liters of water on my carrier and the 27 oz capacity of the LBT is enough for me. If needed I could supplement it with a collapsible water bottle or two in my thigh pocket. That being said I've started to just use platypus bottles and just keeping them in my pocket and throwing them into a GP pouch when they go dry.
