No experience on Kabar, but Kershaw and Sog's knives are wonderful assisted openers, and I would recommend them. PM me if you want details on my knives. | the kershaws are pretty sweet, i checked out a gerber and a crkt koji i think it was at my local store. the gerber had some kind of blade lock on it that easily engaged and made the blade unable to open and the crkt was too tiny for my stubs to flick open quickly. every kershaw ive owned and handled were buttery smooth and very quick to engage not to mention very sharp. |
| Check out the Kershaw "Zero Tolerence" line. Its a collaboration between Ken Onion and Strider. There are a bunch of different models, but the 0300/0400 series are basically a Strider design that utilizes the speedsafe assisted opening mechanism. I've had the zt0400 for a few days now and so far I can't get enough of it. |

M16s aren't assisted opening knives, but with the Carson flipper they are almost as fast. Check out the My Tighe Video is grainy but you can see how fast it is: My Tighe |
I received a SOG Twitch II for Christmas....thanks to me and my internets skillz......got it for $30.00!!  I like it a lot, heavier than my Spyderco, little thicker....but the assisted opening is too cool. It is fast, I really like the little "bump" for kicking it open. The thumb stud does not work too well for me on the AO. It is just the right size....for now, may check out the larger sizes.  Pics for reference sake:

| I have assisted openers by Benchmade, SOG and Kershaw, but honestly, I only really carry an Emerson daily. Usually my Super CQC7 or Mini-Commander both with the Wave feature. Opens right out of the pocket so its technically faster than an auto or assisted. They cost more, but they are tools I use daily so I consider it an investment. |
my sog flash II lasted about a week in my pocket before the clip started flexing within the grip. The area wight where the clip goes inside of my grip began to crack allowing it to flex, and move about 1/4 inch from side to side. I need to send it back to SOG but I just haven't gotten around to it yet, Something to look out for. |
| I know I already posted this in another thread, but I slightly modded my Leek and am exceptionally pleased with the results. Got a #6 Torx driver, reversed the pocket clip, and removed the "slide to lock closed" stud. As to the stud, it was loose and would occasionally slide halfway closed. I could have just tightened it to work properly, but really did not see a need for it. Reversing the clip made deployment from the pocket instant. |
| I have a Kershaw KE-1660ST Leek Part Serrated Edge Knife that I love too carry. I also removed my slide lock which sometimes closed on me; like GLOCKshooter I didn't see a need for it. I cut and applied some of that tape you put on steps so you don't slip and fall on my pocket clip. Lets me get a more secure hold when pulling it from my pocket and opening it. The knife is so light & thin you don't even know you're carrying it till it's needed. |
