| Do you sight in your 9mm ar carbines? |
|
This question comes up all the time and the same old arguments are made. I am always amazed at the logic (or should I say illogical) of the range some people choose. Seems many have little or no concept of practical shooting with irons and how a true rifleman adjusts POI for range.
To save you going back through numerous lengthy discussions of this and to avoid beating a dead horse, just follow this link like the numerous other discussions have done and cut to the chase. Range to zero a 9mm carbine BTW: look at who wrote this advice and research him. See if you would rather trust what he thinks...based on ballistics and practical experience or if you prefer to trust some "amateur" internet expert. While in the military we had to sight in our rifles then qualify on a range with targets from 25 to 300 yards, all without touching the sights. One needed to comprehend trajectory and how it affected your aim point. With "Pop-up" targets there was no time to adjust sights, you had onloy a second or two to assess the target, estimate the range and adjust your aiming point and hit the target. I had a "basic" understanding of the concept having had ten years shooting experience before qualifying. While some pick a range they "feel" is good a true marksman understands the ballistics of his round and works from the physics of that. Intuition is one thing, good physics quite another. |
