I just saw a spring guide (spring that pushes the bolt forward) for an Auto 5 that looked to be made of metal or some type of plastic.

My old (made in the mid to late 1930's) Auto 5 has a wood spring guide (just remembered it was called an action spring) for the spring that pushes the bolt forward.

Did the old ones use wood action spring guides or has mine had a home made replacement?

Thanks for the help/info.

I think wood was original.  My old Savage 720 and Auto 5 both had wood.

My Savage 720 has one made of wood.

My Browning Sweet 16 hasn't been disassembled far enough to tell
