I have a small Benchmade Balisong, all stainless.  The handles and blade are about 4 inches in length.  I bought it when I was stationed at a Navy base in Millington, TN. back in 1985.  It comes with a ballistic nylon style sheath.  Can anyone shed any light on the value of this knife?

Can you post a picture or at least post the model number (it will be printed on the blade under the butterfly logo)?

Older benchmade balisongs are very desirable to balisong collectors, some of the most desirable models like the 42 are worth $350-400.

ETA: I just realized you said 1985 which was back when Benchmade was Bali-Song USA, I don't believe they marked the blades with the model numbers back then.

I appreciate it mak0, I'm curious to see if that means it could possibly be even more valuable?

If it is a Pacific Cutlery and is in good shape it is likely worth some scratch. I had one that was worn to some degree and still sold for $120. (That was a model 10, fwiw.) Most knives really only go for the big numbers if they are pristine or close to it.

Further information:

One one side it has:
     US Patent No 4;364,147
        Made in USA

The reverse side has a Butterfly insignia with the word "Bali Song"

The sheath is set up for horizontal carry.

I contacted Benchmade knives and sent them pictures.  This what they came up with...anyone care to take a shot at the current value?

Timothy,

I shared the pictures you sent me with our Product Services Team and they believe you have a model 10 from Pacific Cutlery. In 1987 that model retailed for $49.95.

I hope this helps!

Nowadays an excellent condition PC model 10 will probably bring over $300 to the right buyer. Condition is everything, if it shows signs of use or any rust it'll probably be more in the $100 range.

Hey so I just created a post about a knife I stumbled across while going through some of my old gear. It's a Benchmade Balisong that I bought about 10-12 years ago. I've been trying to figure out if its the model 42. I don't know much about knives so if you could enlighten me I would be very appreciative. Here's my post with pictures of what I've got.mthanks in advance.
