I was doing some Internet Browsing and found their website.  They have some really cool Vests, I wanted to know if anyone here has had any experience with their products.

[sarcasm] It has an uncanny similiarity to the John Willis SOE design...

Yes.

Before ordering from John, be aware that what you will get is going to be some of the best made and best designed gear available.  It is also being produced by a very small shop with lots of demand and that gives priority (as it should) to active duty people preparing for deployment.

If you want off-the-shelf gear and want it to ship the next day, order from tactical tailor go to SKD and order some Eagle or other gear that they have in stock.  If you want the gear in time to take it with you when you deploy in a couple months, order from John and make sure he knows who you are and when you need it.  If you just want some really good gear, possibly with custom changes, and don't mind waiting 8-9 months, then John will take very good care of you.

i havent personally used any BDS gear but ive handled the simple stacker chest rig and their cobra pack. i think the simple stacker is a well made piece of gear.i don't personally like their packs, the biggest issue being the way the MOLLE webbing is sewn on, it doesn't look like it will hold up. the webbing on the chest rig looks fine though. if it fits your needs better than everything else you've looked at, then get it. others can give you advice as to quality, but the only way to know if its what you want is to try it.

i have some .308 stacker and saw pouches.  the .308 pouches are just what i needed and were not available anywhere else.  only complaint is that the pals seam is offset not centered.  not all are like that though, just makes pouch mounted on front just to one side a little.  the saw pouches have a cutout for a 2qt topas well which i like.  seems similiar in quality to my other hsgi, tt, and ppm gear.

BDS Tactical make fantastic gear. Top Notch fit and finish and it is all made right here in the USA. Oceanside CA I think. Their chest rigs and plate carriers are awesome.

For those running single point slings, BDS make some of the nicest I have ever seen. Check out their double bungie with HK Style snap hook. Great!!!!

obviously you don't know the drama between bds and john. imo, i've never bought from john, mainly cause i don't really want to wait months for something i order (i get it, and understand, but it's not for me personally), but i'd get his stuff over the bds stuff just cause of all the back story.

I'll never use them again, ordered two slings one was sewn wrong. Tried for two weeks to make contact with someone, E-mail, web page, phone calls, the works. No one would contact me back.  Ya I know it's only a couple of lousy slings, but still, they claim life time warranty but that's only if you can track them down to have them fix it.

They also call them selves RandS tactical or something like that.

No, I don't know about the drama. Nor do I care quite frankly. I only met John very briefly over at Quantico Arms in Oceanside CA. He seemed an honest, hard working guy and his product or everything I have seen of his product was top quality.

I don't mind waiting for gear. Especially from small operations like BDS. I know they don't have the resources to hire 30 people to sew for me. I have learned not to pay to much attention to drama.

No, you obviously don't know anything about "the drama."  John is an honest, hard-working guy.  He has a small shop and ordering from him is likely to entail a wait but the quality of the products is absolutely top-notch.  But John's company is "Original SOE".

BDS stopped being John's company a year or two before changing their name to BDS, a fact I didn't know at the time and why I made the mistake of buying from them.

Your desire to stick to knowing about the gear is admirable but you probably should take steps to find out what people are talking about.

In this case, people are trying to tell you that John Willis is not affiliated with BDS Tactical and that BDS Tactical's gear sucks. Many can elabotate on individual problems and John can tell you all about the BDS gear that has been brought to him to be repaired.

The reason he said you don't get out much is that you said BDS makes some of the nicest gear you've seen, which tells us all that you haven't seen much good gear.

BDS sucks goatballs.
I'll spend my money on cheap Chinese gear before I EVER hand them one cent of mine. (Same for TAG.)
To say John Willis builds awesome gear, would be a minor understatement.
The people that bitch about wait times have no clue about the extremes John goes through to get gear made for those that are being deployed, ie setting up a whole team with multiple rigs shortly before they left, repairing BDS gear that wasn't stitched right, amongst others.

I do not pretend to know a great deal about tactical gear. I have an Eagle CIRAS Vest with Spectre Gear and Blackhawk Mag Pouches. I don't yet have plates but as I am a Pinnacle Armor/Dragonskin Dealer I will get Level III when I can afford to.

So far I am happy with the Eagle Vest. I did meet the head of BDS Tactical at Quantico Arms in O-Side CA. He brought in some Rigs he made for a USMC Unit going to the sandbox and they appeared excellent.

I don't have plans to buy any BDS gear at the moment however I am planning to fill my vest with some quality Mag Pouches, Med Kit, etc. Please enlighten me on the drama as it appears rather important and then can someone guide me to a decent source of Molle Gear.

Thanks
