Loaded up 50rds of .223 Rem with 24.9grs of BLC-2 77gr Sierra BTHP. Very nice round average speed was 2744 FPS for ten rounds . These ten rounds gave me a grouping of 1.44" at 100yds if it wasn't for one round or flier I would have had a group of ten rounds less than an MOA just under an inch. I shot all of these rounds and now am going to load 50 more rounds. I think I found the load that my 20" SS RRA A4 really goes for this was the first time I had shot this load but it won't be the last. I am sure I can go under MOA with this load but I don't know how far.

| I have had good luck with ball c 2 powder with almost all bullet weights in 223 and 50 grain 222.I know alot of people say they dont like it and it is temp sensitive;it even does great in the 30/30 for me.It is the first ball type powder I used(years ago when I was a kid with my dad and I will stick with it).Glad to see it works with 10 shots for you. That is what we like to do instead of 3 or 5 shots. |

You are running the maximum load on that powder and bullet, and you are working that load up in cold weather as well, NOT a good idea, what are you going to do when it gets hot? In Glen Zediker's book "The Competitive AR15" he points out BLC2 for particular attention, unfortunately it isn't a recommendation, in the entire book he only warns against one powder for 223, and that's BLC2, he calls it "spooky under the sun", not exactly a glowing recommendation! If you want to use it, it's temperature sensitive so keep your loads on the moderate side. http://fulton-armory.com/thecompetitivear-15byzediker.aspx You didn't say anything about working up this load from minimum charges, your post makes it sound like you went straight to the max load to try this powder out, if that's what you did, its a bad idea with any powder. There are lots of other powders that aren't known for being temperature sensitive that would be better choices. |
