I'm looking at getting a few suppressors and while the smaller ones are an easy choice I'm having a tough time picking a BMG sized can. I'll be shooting on a Serbu BFG-50 and will mostly be shooting subsonic ammo.  600+ grains moving at somewhere between 900 and 1100 fps depending on what temp I'm tuning my load for. Right now I'm looking at the Elite Iron Alpha and AWC Turbodyne.  Both of these suggestions came from Dr. Dater at Gemtech who isn't interested in making a .50 can for a while.

Most of my shooting will be subsonics but I will be shooting standard loads occasionally to get some new brass.  Length and weight don't bother me at all. I generally prefer larger cans anyway since they're generally quieter. I'm really just interested in getting the quietest can I can so I can use it on both my .50BMG rifle and a .500S&W lever gun.  I searched the site and didn't come up with anything on the subject by my search only goes back 30 days. Is there another can I should be looking at as well?

If almost all of your shooting will be done subsonic, I would look at the Bowers Vers 50 or another suppressor that is rated for subsonic 50 cal 32only.  Similar to getting a subsonic 300 blk rated 9mm can.  That will save you a lot of money and size/weight.
Putting a 4 lb bmg rated suppressor on a lever gun would pretty much eliminate any off hand shooting.

As far as actual 50 bmg cans go, I looked into them a few years ago, but like you I found very little feedback and no direct comparisons between the different suppressors.  I decided that I could use that $2k on things that would get a little more use.

Seen this one on Gunbroker the other day... starting bid was $995 and nobody bid on it. Then they put a Reserve on it and went down on the Buy Now price...

I've never even touched one or heard how they sound, but for less than $1200, it might be worth getting just to plink with!

I'm not interested in a light weight unit. I want it to be big and brutal. If the situation ever changes that I'm not shooting mostly subsonic I don't want to have to get a new suppressor or be left with one that I can't really use.  As it stands now almost all my shooting is done supported by bipods or shooting sticks unless I'm using and EBR or pistols.  I don't see that changing.

I'm familiar with Anzio. The price looks pretty good but those welds don't look to be the greatest.  I'll give them a call but I still need some firsthand experience between a couple different suppressors.

I have been looking into building one.

Wonder if it is safe to use API in a suppressor?

I got to play who the EI, AWC, and the AAC. I chose the aac. It was quieter, and had a more pleasant tone over all. It is more expensive, but it was worth it in my book for the quality.

Their build quality is top notch, the can is even presented in a custom fitted hardigg case. It brings supersonic ammo from ear shattering down to hearing safe levels. Plus it is QD, with a muzzle break that is more effective then the factory one Barrett sent with my m95 or my m99.

I shot the AAC Cyclops at the AAC Silencer shoot last year.  I thought it was loud as heck,  Shot it right next to the Ops Inc 50 caliber suppressor.  There was no doubt, the Ops Inc is a much quieter suppressor.

while I do prefer OPS Inc cans over AAC most of the time... I've never found anyone who actually has the OI 50BMG can in stock or who can actually get it.

last I read about the Ops can, was after 2yrs, a batch was being made. No way I'd want to gamble with delivery
When I get back into 50cal's I'll probably try to lathe my own or go with Elite Iron.

Whose built the 500S&W lever?  I've always wanted one since the WWG was advertised. A light weight 500S&W would be a perfect for me to hunt with here in CO

I know Mark (bookhound) has a good relationship with Ron Allen (the maker of Ops Inc cans).  If you are interested you may want to call him and see what he says.  He'd probably be able to get one for you.

Mark is a very good friend of mine. And Accurate Ordinance is my favorite shop. Mark is actually the one who talked me into the aac can.. no dice on the ops inc. I know Allen too. He has a new design for a 308 can that in my opinion makes it the best precision rifle can on the market.

Any word on the performance of the Barrett QDL .50 can?
