Going to get AR500 steel plate for my body armor setup. But I’m worry about blunt trauma. The plate will outright stop most rifle round, but what about the blunt force of being hit by something going a few thousand feet a second?
I’m looking for something to insert behind the plate to help reduce this. Anyone here know of any? Thank |

a 200 grain projectile is going 3000FPS, will move a 10 lb steel plate about 1/4 inch backward MAX. I could do the math but I am kinda lazy. the impact of a bullet on your place is not enough to damage you, vibrations might sting, but you wont get hurt by them. look at the steel targets that get shot at a range, how much do they move when you shoot them? how fast? a 5 lb steel target falling over at 1 mph means a 10 lb steel target would fall over at .5 mph(if at all).
Think of it this way, if the plate and rifle weigh the EXACT same amount the kick from the fired rifle and the impact are the same amount. BUT the rifle weighs 6 lbs, and the plate 10, os impact will be 6/10th of the original impact minus slow down of the bullet from the muzzle. so in essense your plate will not hit you hard enough to need padding, instead of padding why not get a IIIA vest for side protection AND spall protection. |

I wish my Banshee had attachments for that. |
