It's been a while since I purchased my first can (AAC 762-SDN-6). In that time, I have not kept up with the new offerings available on the market today. I am finally looking to buy my second can for a Walther PPQ 9mm. Obviously suppression is the goal but I can not imagine slapping a 8", 13oz can on a lightweight polymer framed handgun. As stated before the primary host will be a 9mm handgun but in the future I can see myself either buying or building a short barreled 9mm carbine. I would like to use the suppressor for both platforms. Why Silencerco? They offer a great warranty and military discount. The two cans that caught my eye are the Omega 9K and Octane 45K. Each can seems to have similar suppression performance with 9mm. Decibel readings aren't everything and there is no real way to get a sense for the tone of each can. If anyone has experience with either, feedback would be greatly appreciated! That leads me to my perceived pros and cons for each can.

Omega 9K

Pros:
- 4.7" Long, 8.8 oz. Easily the best preforming 9mm can for its size

Cons:
- 1.5" Diameter. Kinda chunky
- Unable to take apart

Octane 45K

Pros:
- 9.4 oz. Still pretty light
- .45 ACP, an added benefit if I decide to get a .45 host down the road

Cons:
- 2" longer than the Omega 9K

I went 45K, primarily because I wanted a shorter option for my HK45C... if I didn't need the 45 caliber option,  I probably would have gone with Omega 9K.

That said.... I really want a Omega 9K at some point, and will probably be my first post 41F suppressor.

Edit to add: I use my 45K on my VP9 (virtually identical to your PPQ) and it balances pretty well, and sounds good.

Thanks for the response! Do you use the 9mm end cap for the 45K on the VP9? I've got mixed responses about this. Some say that it works fine and even gives you marginal decibel reduction. Others have had endcap strikes with the 9mm cap. Is this something that SilencerCo recommends against?

Another option is the Ghost M and Obsidian. Both meter great and give you the ability to go short and long and are both 45 cans.

I have an Octane 45k along with a bunch of other pistol cans.  I've put 9mm through it on a couple different hosts now (P229 with factory threaded barrel and a G17/Lone Wolf) and it's "OK".  I was not really impressed with the tone or the DB reduction.  To my ears I considered it hearing safe, but it was still loud using Winchester 147gr or Brown Bear 145gr JHP.  If I were you I'd lean really hard towards a TiRANT-45M.  I've got a 45s and it's not bad on 9mm.  Shorter and lighter than the Octane 45k, about the same noise level to my ears, and a lower tone.  The one I'm really shocked by is the TiRANT-9s.  It's a little stubby 5" can and it sounds better (to my ears) than the Octane 45k or the TiRANT-45s.  Both are much longer cans.

I've got a Ghost M that just cleared form 3 but I won't have that in my grubby hands till probably next year.  Sent the form 4 in at the end of June......  I'm also lusting after an Omega 9k for a 3-lug can.  I'm using a TiRANT-9 with a Triad mount now.

Octane 45k vs Octane 45:

Best pic I've got at the moment with my "compact" cans:

Left to right:  TiRANT-45s, TiRANT-9s, Octane 45k, and a Thompson Wasp 22 on the right.

Shameless plug for the Ti-Rant 45M

Long or Short works with 45's and 9's

FYI some new stuff is just around the corner if you like the Ti-Rants...

Good!  I bought what I wanted before 41f. The industry is going to have to come out with some awesome stuff to get me back into the NFA buying mode.

I'm really happy with the Omega 9k on my PPQ.  I've shot it next to the octane 9 and it's audibly similar for both the shooter and people standing behind us.  the diameter is bigger on the 9k but you're aiming through the can on both just less so than the octane.  The original host for the can was my MKE's so my priority was the shortest package possible.

Any issues with the Rugged 3-Lug Mount in the Omega 9k?  Combo is shorter than the AAC TiRant 9s with 3-Lug mount.

I have the Omega9K. Bought it primarily for a CZ Scorpion but have used it on a VP9.

I don't have a lot of experience with cans (only other is the Omega) but I really like it.

Quiet and compact is what attracted me to it.

I 'assumed' if SoCo think it needed to be taken apart they would have made it that way. Either way they'd probably fix it if there were ever an issue.

Omega and Omega9K:

Does a RMR sight clear the Omega 9K?

On a HK VP9 etc?

On the scorpion yes.
HK I added taller sights and they don't clear.

None that I've seen.  Locks up great and suppression is about the same.

Yes - at least on my p320
