I'm looking at a friend's Ballester-Molina, and the recoil spring plug is damaged from firing it with a very weak spring.

Is there a preferred "standard weight" 1911 recoil spring that works better than other weights in these guns?

Is the only difference in the recoil spring plug (Ballester-Molina vs. 1911) the cosmetic circular serrations on the end of the B-M plug compared to the typically checkered basic 1911 plug?

Thanks...

Standard weight is 16 lbs. When going to heavier springs, it's recommended that the firing pin spring also be replaced with a heavier one. I'm pretty sure the plugs are interchangeable with 1911 parts. I had to replace the recoil spring in my Ballaster Riguad since it came with a collasped spring. Got it from Gun Parts Corp. for about $5. It's a standard Series 70 recoil spring. P/N 229160F.
