Was planning on a 29 inch but would 36 be better? Carrying it isn't a problem. Its for a Ferret 50. Whats the max range of the 18?

This is according to State Arms;

What is the optimum barrel length?
You need at least 29" to get maximum velocity with military ammunition. A 36" barrel accommodates more powder types, including 20mm powders, which need a minimum of 34". For competitive shooting a 36" barrel is recommended.

What barrel weight do I need?
Hunting - a light weight barrel is sufficient. Easier to carry, but should wait about 2 minutes between shots.
Target - A bull barrel is best for bench shooting and / or when you must be able to fire 5 shots within 2 minutes.

This is from Ferrets website:

"Muzzle velocity is approximately 2600fps from an 18" barrel, 2800fps from 29", and 2900 fps from 36". Maximum effective range is approximately 900 yards from an 18" barrel, 1300 yards from 29", and 1450 yards from 36". (This data was compiled from testing at sea level, during F90 degree temperature, using 1952 Lake City API ammo.)"

What length barrel was used on the 2400+ meters shot? Those sound way to low.

To shoot longer distance is more than a barrel length issue.  If the scope mount is ramped more it increases the distance the scope can be adjusted to shoot.  Also bullet selection would be important.
