The 940 is legendary. It will also spoil you, when buying different blades after it! It will set the bar for an EDC knife.
After using the AXIS lock, you will scoff at other inferior locking mechanisms that put your fingers directly inline with the blade! After you have it a while, and get bored or want a little bigger....get the BM 710 in M390 steel. Superior EDC/"tactical" blade. BM service and warranty is TOP notch, I have used it several times. Buy with confidence!! |

Thanks, folks. Went ahead and ordered one, except I got the 943 instead of the 940. Decided I wanted the clip point instead of the modified tanto. ETA: Got the plain edge, satin finish. http://www.benchmade.com/images/model_blowup/943.jpg Now you have inspired another knife purchase. |

I've had mine as an EDC work knife for 4 years now. It's taken a beating and I've even tried to replace it a couple times... It always ends up back in my pocket because it's honestly the best pocket knife I've ever owned. If I bother to buy another folder, it will be the exact same knife over again.
I think I'm gonna send it back into them this next week to get it professionally re-sharpened. |
| Just ordered a 940 w/ plain edge and satin finish. I shopped it around quite a bit and finally found it for $134 delivered. That was the best I could find. My Spyderco's always seem to kick my Benchmades out of my pocket, but I think this knife may change that. |

Got my 943 today. This thing is sweet. Blade's a little longer and narrower than what I'm used to (Mini-grip and/or Delica4) but then again I wanted a little longer blade. I'm in love with the Axis lock; I think it's the best locking mechanism ever developed. Workmanship is nothing less than fantastic. Blade is SCARY sharp out of the box. The anodized Al scales give a great grip but I think they're going to be scratch magnets. I hate pocket clips so I took it off; this knife carries well (so far) just loose in my pocket. I know I've got new-knife euphoria, but I really think I'm going to like this one! http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b296/forester1/Blades/DSC_5663.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b296/forester1/Blades/DSC_5662.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b296/forester1/Blades/DSC_5661.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b296/forester1/Blades/DSC_5664.jpg You will be pleasantly surprised at how well the finish on the grips holds up. I will post a picture of my knife in a bit. As I said, probably close to 5 years of daily use as a longshoreman/rigger in a Naval Shipyard. Mine has held up so well that I can't replace it. Haha Edit: Here's some pictures of mine. I beat the living crap out of it. I've cut through salt water soaked mooring lines, rope on a regular basis, cardboard, fiberglass lagging, plastic, etc. The most worn spot on it is where the clip area that sticks out of my pocket has rubbed up against stuff while I climb around the boats/ships. I'm going to send it back to Benchmade soon and have the blade sharpened. I've also been contemplating sanding the scales down some and refinishing it in a different color.

Thanks for those pics, Wreck. Looks like that finish is a bit more durable than I thought.
Not that I'm worried about some honest finish wear; this thing ain't gonna be no safe queen. Wife asked me what i was doing a while ago while I was wandering around the house; said "Looking for something to cut!". |

Just be extremely careful. They come to you so sharp that you can easily cut yourself and not even realized you did so until you smear blood on something.

| I was working in a gun shop when the 940s were first released. The Benchmade reps showed us some prototypes, and one of them was a 940 with titanium scales. It was love at first sight and I bought one as soon as the production models were in stock. I still carry a 940 on a regular basis, no other knife I've bought or looked at in the past 6 years has been able to replace it. In fact, I bought a second 940 just so I have a backup. |

Been thinking about doing the same. |

I don't think you can do much better for EDC I'd be afraid to carry it loose in my pocket, but whatever works for you I guess. |
