This was just brought up in one of the 1301 threads as well, seems to be commonplace. If it creates enough room, run it! Mine with the retainer can fit 7, but there is literally *no* extra room. |

The good news is, its been well advertised on the forums so it shouldn't catch a lot of people off guard, and its cheap. That reminds me, I need to pick up a multi-pack of these things to have as spares. |

In the meantime, if your shotgun is meant to be a defensive use shotgun, do take what I’m about to post as a caution against using this product. https://i.imgur.com/wgHmrWd.jpeg https://i.imgur.com/bESnoLh.jpeg This is the Zhukov handguard modified by GG&G for use in the A300 Ultima Patrol. What has happened here is the result of shooting a 2 3/4” 1oz shotgun slug at 1600fps. This lug is meant to act as a piston stop. It is clearly not up to the task as currently designed. If you look at the factory handguard, the piston stop goes all the way back and makes contact with the front of the receiver. Much stronger. In my case, the piston stop broke off, allowing the piston to over travel. Once the gas ring was outside of the gas cup of the barrel, it expanded, and once the piston was struck by the operating rod, the gas ring could not guide itself back into the gas cup and was bent as pictured. Symptoms were the gun not going back into battery. I’m not particularly upset about it at this time, and I’m sure GG&G will make it right, but I likely will not install this handguard back onto the gun unless they have a revised part that has a much more substantial piston stop incorporated. Ouch. I wondered about that set up when they first came up with it. GG&G unfortunately tends to go cheap when it comes to hardware. I’ve had a couple of products with soft screws. Since that part is doing more than simply holding the handguard in place, they really should have chosen a material with the proper hardness that was up to the task. For other guys using that handguard from GG&G for the A300 it might be a good idea to inspecting those tabs as part of routine maintenance to look for any cracks before a total failure. The worrisome part in my opinion is that deadlines the gun. Not a good situation for a defensive shotgun. |

The worrisome part in my opinion is that deadlines the gun. Not a good situation for a defensive shotgun. It really needs a 3rd contact point at the 6 o’clock position. GG&G has sent out a new part. Once I receive it, I’ll either utilize the 6 o’clock mlok slots to install a block that runs from the receiver to the back side of that plastic piece, or I’ll add a brass thread insert to the plastic piece and screw through the handguard. I haven’t decided yet. |

W/o reading every single post & page, I have a couple of questions before pulling the trigger on one of these: How well does it handle light loads like my fav Fiocchi 9-pellet #1 buck @1250fps? And are there any *required* upgrades right out of the box for max reliability? Thx! |

If you buy something from Aridus you can bet your life on it. This isn’t a knock of GG&G, it’s just that some companies are in this race to be first to market without really fully vetting their product. We’ve seen this with Midwest Industries with their MLOK rail for the 1301 awhile back. I expect Aridus to make A300 specific parts eventually if they aren’t already T&Eing some things already |

I've seen hundreds of rounds of the stuff go through the guns, no issues traceable to the low recoil ammo. You should keep the gun lubricated, though. Especially as you break it in. It doesn't like to run well dry right out of the box. |

That heat shield is pretty slick with the cable management and switching options. As soon as they make a switch option for the AXON SL, I'll be ordering. Frankly a pressure pad on the shotgun isn't needed for me, but getting the light on the right side would open up some sling options, which currently are my one gripe about the shotgun. |

Final question: I've been looking at the non-LE version that takes different choke tubes but I can't seem to find any info on what choke tube(s) come with the A300UP. I'd like a Modified choke but if it doesn't come w/one, where's the best place to pick one up? Thx again! |

Thx for all the replies, I appreciate it. ![]() Update: This site costs/saves me money! ![]() Ordered an A300UP for $875 shipped so less than $900 OTD w/transfer fee. From Beretta I ordered the Pro Lifter, a Modified choke tube & tube wrench for less than $100 (30% off and free shipping during their '12 Days of Christmas' sale, woot!) From Amazon I ordered a Limbsaver buttpad, from GG&G I ordered the QD socket that fits between the receiver & buttstock (I use a Magpul single point sling setup on my shotguns) plus an RMR-footprint mounting plate. From my local Sportmans Warehouse I'll pick up a Meprolight MPO-DF that will fit either Picatinny or RMR (I'm currently using their MPO-S on a 590 and really like the auto-brightness feature) but am undecided on a WML setup. I have an extra Wolff EP spring for 7rd mag tubes, I'll probably swap it out for the factory spring when I first clean the A300UP before shooting. The experiment begins! ETA: Will try a Streamlight TLR RM2 for a WML. |

I'm hoping for a 1/3-or-so cowitness as I don't like a cluttered sight picture. Also, ordered a Noveske flush QD socket for the buttstock so I won't need the GG&G QD sling mount adapter. Plan is to attach a Magpul M-LOK QD cup at 9 o'clock on the handguard and the Streamlight at either 3 o'clock or 6 o'clock with the remote switch mounted behind the 9 o'clock QD cup, experimentation is in order. If all goes well, I'm hoping to hit the range w/it Friday (after a good cleaning/lubing, of course Many thx to those who provided solid first-hand info about the A300UP! |

W/it removed one could always use the optic as a giant ghost ring w/the front sight should the optic itself fail for any reason. ETA: Ordered the GG&G tube cover & matching clamp (liked it better than the Nordic offering, ymmv) as well as the Beretta factory adjustable ghost ring sight (still 30% off w/free shipping, couldn't pass it up ). This is intended to eventually be passed down to my son or grandson so even if I might not need it, I want to give him/them the option of using a quality adjustable GRS if they so desire.

New to me A300 is coming along nicely. So far very impressed. I've got a few K through my A300 bird gun and working this one just feels natural. I've added a noveske qd and the AEMS in a low mount. Still sitting a little higher than ideal, but it definitely helps avoid cowitnessing the ghost ring setup which was a must for me. Looking at getting the ammj AEMS to T2 adapter and using a saddle mount to bring it down a touch lower. Attached File Attached File |
Plunked down the cash for an A300 UP today. Now I get to wait ten days before I can finger fuck it again. ![]() Oh well. I am really struggling to decide on the optic. I thought I was sold on the P2 until I actually looked through one. Now I’m down to the MPS or the RMR HD… or something else. |

I'm going to try the Meprolight MPO-DF that can use an RMR adapter plate or the included picatinny mount, this gives me two different-height mounting options. Plus, it's made in the Phillipines instead of Chinesium and I really like the auto-brightness control option. It's also affordable enough to experiment with ($150 at my local Sportsmans Warehouse) so no big financial hit if I don't like it. I pick up my A300UP in two days, I'll post an initial impressions w/the Meprolight here. |

Ran my new A300UP to the range this morning for a quick test. Started with 1325fps/12p #1 buck, then 1180fps/#8 and finally my fav Fiocchi 1250fps/9p #1 buck. I'm happy to report that after 50rds of these mixed loads, functioning was 100% (including my needless concern over my Pro Lifter install The Limbsaver was great at reducing perceived recoil, my Fiocchi #1 buck was a real pussycat to shoot. Since I was wearing gloves the very aggressive texturing wasn't apparent, but more testing w/o gloves is in order to determine if it's going to be a problem. I'm not too happy w/my optics setup at the moment. Nothing to do w/the optic itself but using the Beretta's picatinny rail instead of an RMR plate placed the optic way too high for me w/the GRS completely blocked. I have an RMR plate en route so I'll give that a try but must admit the one outstanding feature of the Mossberg OR shotguns is how low you can mount the optic thanks to the receiver cut. So, I removed the optic and tried the factory plastic GRS. I was very surprised at how fast & easy it was to engage targets quickly w/them (I'm not a fan of GRS, but this morning's experience may have changed my mind). Even more surprising was how dead-on the GRS were right out of the box. Slugs were right on target at 50yds. I have the adjustable metal GRS due to be delivered today but now I'm beginning to consider returning them. In fact, I shot so well with them that if I don't like how the RMR plate option turns out I might just stick to the GRS and forgo an RDS completely (heresy, I know ).The Noveske QD flush mount installed quickly/easily as did the Magpul M-LOK QD mount at 9 o'clock. This sling setup works better than any other shotgun sling setup I've tried in the past. Not as good as on, say, an AR, but adequate. Removed the mag tube retainer for a little more space and replaced the factory spring w/a Wolff XP. I've found mounting WML's on shotguns to sometimes be problematic. After much thought, here's what I'm trying at the moment: Streamlight TLR RM2 (two big advantages, imho; low profile and the remote switch functions for both momentary & constant on). Tried it at 3 o'clock & 1:30 but didn't care for the large amount of bbl shadow and it created cable management problems. Can't mount it at 9 or 10:30 as my QD mount is there. So, as an experiment I'm trying it at 6 o'clock on a cantilever rail, this solves both the shadow & cable management problem (see photo below). *Now* I'm wishing I'd initially purchased the A300UP instead of the Mossberg 940TR, but I guess the important thing is that I finally arrived at the correct solution for me. ![]() Many thanks to those contributors in this thread who supplied the information & experience that's been so helpful. Eternity is coming for us all. It cannot be denied, debated or avoided.
We would do well to ponder how we're going to spend that eternity, because eternity is a long time to be wrong.

The Beretta website says this adjustable rear sight is compatible for both the 1301 & A300: Adjustable Rear Sight I thought I had read that this sight wasn't directly compatible w/the A300 w/o a lot of elevation adjustment due to front sight blade height difference? Thx! |

Thx! The A300 and 1301 mount pattern is the same for ghost ring sights, but the rear included with the 1301 is adjustable. IIRC the OEM company makes a metal version |
