Looking for some new plates. Prefer to stay under 500.00. I'm not a navy seal, so I just need a good set. Any suggestions?

AR500 plates will easily meet your budget, if you want ceramic you might find some that meet it too.
Now if you want lightweight ceramic level 4 it will likely exceed your budget, depending on size.
I bought mine here several years ago, but like everything else they have gone up in price.
Although it seems that a lot of places are sold out lately, I wonder why...

500 per or per set?  Any weight restrictions?

Level 4 under $500 for a set is going to come with the trade-off of being heavy.

Do you (A) need level 4 plates, are you in an area where large caliber hunting rifles are going to be a serious threat? Can you (B) physically perform in level 4 plates at the weight you'll have to accept?  An additional 2, 4, or even 6 lbs may not seem like a lot, but it does take its toll.  Just make sure that you're comfortable with the trade-off.  If you haven't spent a lot of time in plates before or it's been a long time since you've worn armor on the regular it might be worth going with some Level 3+ with Green Tip protection or spending the extra money to go lighter weight with the Level 4.

I live in a big hunting area, so I would prefer level 4. Weight is not a big issue. I stay in pretty good shape. I already have a mayflower apc carrier. I think it's for sapi cut plates.

That's right, friends don't let friends buy steel plates.

If all you can afford at this point are steel plates than instead of buying those just invest in a chest rig and put your money into ammo for training instead or save up more.

For guys really on a budget wait for Black Friday sales or hunt for discount codes (lot of YouTubers will do a "review" on armor and offer a discount code.

Look at mrgunsngear on YT while it lasts. He has several reviews on plates around that price.

I have these.  If LAPG is still selling their plates, Mr. Gunsandgear gave them a decent, favorable review. They are a “budget” option.

Highcom 4S17M, RMA 1165, or even the Tacitcon TASPIV03 (freedom50 code) would fit your budget.. :D

Some suspect their certification was pulled to discourage Americans from buying armor.  Not because they don't meet the standard or specification.

Everyone should know that the current Administration wants Americans disarmed and helpless.

All of the data on the RMA 1165 plates shows they are GTG and often exceed the NIJ testing standards.
