I am having some issues with powder drops on my 550, I have been using IMR 4895 and have had good results but heard alot of good things about RE-15 but the powder drops on RE-15 vary quite abit on my 550, how can this be fixed to minimize the variance ?

I have only loaded on a progressive so I have no loading blocks or powder funnel to trickle the charge, should I just buy a funnel and trickler and hand weigh each charge ?

There are a couple I use regularly, Varget and H-380 in my 308 bolt guns.  In my M-14 I would stick with the 4895 or 4064, I don't think it would matter in a AR-10 type rifle.  I have had really good luck duplicating Remington Match ammo out of my 700-PSS with H-380 and 168 grain Sierra Match Kings.  If you have any further questions just ask.  H-380 is a ball type powder and should meter out of the 550 nicely, it does out of mine.

This is going to be shot from a Savage 10 Bolt gun using 168 SMK's , Sierra recommended 42.0g of RE-15 with a OAL of 2.800"
The IMR 4895 does pretty good but like I said I have heard that RE-15 really does well so I thought I would work up a load for the Savage, I made (5) rounds each of the following 40.5-43.0 g of the RE-15 but they did vary a couple 1/10 ths on each side of the charge.
I would like to maybe weigh each charge next time by hand and charge but don't know what I need to do this, maybe some powder dippers, trickler and a funnel not sure ?

Try the load before going to weighing charges.  When I started loading as a kid - I started with a Lee dipper then went to a scale.  Weighed every single charge for my rifles.  Started shooting hi-power and found that a small difference in powder weight made little or no difference in accuracy.  Bullet quality and straight rounds seemed to be the most important factors in accuracy.  Of course - I was a gas gunner so take it for what it's worth.

YMMV

I will shoot the ones I have loaded but may get a caliber specific funnel for the .308 like a alum one from Satern along with a trickler and a loading block to do my match stuff

I have good luck with Win 748 and IMR 4064 in my 700VS.
