The subject pretty much covers it: if you were buying a new lower today for a RDIAS host, which brand would you choose and why?

Mega?  DPMS?  One of the billet versions?

Are any of them available with "SAFE-SEMI-AUTO" markings on them from the factory (preferably on both sides)?

Along the same lines, who has the best full-auto ambi selector?

Thanks for the input.

Without a doubt, MGI.
Reasons are obvious.

OK, I'm not seeing the obvious advantages with the MGI lower.

I guess I should also note that I'm left-handed and plan on buying a Stag lefty upper (with full-auto bolt carrier) to go on top of it.

As far as I know, Bushmaster has the only ambidextrous full auto selector.

I have a Stag lefty upper with a 11.5" barrel on it.

I had Steve Sawyer of Tom Sawyer engraving put my name and some Army stuff on a DPMS lower and add AUTO to both sides of the selector settings.  I don't believe he does this type of work any longer.

Use:
Unmodified AK Mags/drums. (7.62x39)
Unmodified Grease Gun mags (.45ACP)
I have a 9mm mag block bolted to one of my 5.56 mag wells so there is no chance of the magwell adapter falling out.
They are also working on .308 to use M14 mags.  If they are successful, it will be the only 308 configuration that will work with a RDIAS except for the Belt fed BRP MG-34 conversion.

My MGI with 7.5" 7.62x39 upper:

My MGI with 9mm setup:

My MGI lower with AK magwell attached for a low profile setup with Ares Shrike belt fed upper and 200 round SAW box attached (with a regular 5.56 lower the SAW box hangs down too low for my tastes, the bottom of the SAW box is about the same level as the bottom of the Grip Pod's feet when deployed w/ a regular lower):

I like the POF lower.

I've been using Bushmaster lowers for my RDIAS. I think the POF lowers look good and i would want to try it out. And as soon as MGI comes out with the .308 or belt fed system i'm going to get it. I do like thier QCB upper though.

Did the Bushmaster require additional machine work?  I thought they were "high shelf" lowers?

As for the MGI, all that stuff is pretty sweet, for sure, but I'm most interested in a left-handed upper in standard 5.56mm.  All those other configurations eject on the right, which isn't a feature to me.

My Bushmasters are low-shelf.

Just finished my new RDIAS host using a DoubleStar lower. Came with low-shelf and no modifications required. Put 400 rounds through it last weekend and stripped it down to have it engraved with personal logo on the R/side magwell and SHTF selector markings.

I have a RRA and a Bushmaster, and the RRA is better.

Bushmaster here.  Very happy.  Drops in w/o any modification.

So all of these are low-shelf then:

  • RRA

  • Bushmaster

  • Doublestar

  • MGI Modular

  • Mega (I think?)

Any others?

Can any of these be ordered with "SAFE-SEMI-AUTO" markings without additional engraving?

here he is referring to the full auto ambi selector. RRA is NOT low shelf.

CMMG is another maker of a DIAS/RLL ready lower

Now that we've got all that settled, are any of these lowers, other than the billet offerings, available with "SAFE-SEMI-AUTO" markings on them, preferably on both sides of the receiver?

Good question another one, how to tell if lower is low or high shelf, there must be a measurement or something that can be preformed?

I am going to try one of those MGI lowers for my new build.
