I just got a spyderco from amazon, and while it seem real, and I'm happy with it, some of the reviewers suspected they got fakes. One of the complaints was the blades had "V810" instead of VG10, as if the stamping was sloppy. The one I got clearly states VG10.

There is a long thread on one of the popular knife forums about the fake spydercos, apparently it's a big problem. It's not only spyderco being faked, there are fake microtecs and other fakes. Some of them are done so well it's really hard to tell a fake one from a real one. The logos, steel stamp, and other markings are spot on. Or simply differing a little from the real thing.

So I just wanted to warn folks to purchase from reputable sellers. Some of the fake ones are being sold at non-discount prices, it would suck to pay good coin for a knife only to wind up with a fake.

Crazy. Had no idea. I collect Microtech, but haven't bought anything for about 7 years and was just looking at some stuff again.
Thanks!

It is a very real problem on amazon since they do have third party sellers.
A lot of times people think they are purchasing direct from amazon when they are not.

Check the company name to get their overall ratings, companies that are very new or have overall poor ratings should be avoided.

Even getting it directly from Amazon is no guarantee.

People buy real knives and return fakes. Amazon unknowingly re-sells the fake.
