I got to shoot one of the M1A SOCOMs at the range.  Now I want one.  Or probably the Scout Rifle.

Help!

Only way to cure this is buy 2 . Me , I would go with the Scout , then I would get a full size , I really do not like short barrels on my 762's .....but thats just me .

Some times the SOCOM's wont zero because of the front sight hight ...........The have a built in branding iron and are way to loud . BUT the muzzle break WORKS real good .

I recommend the SOCOM, mainly because I own one. Has a little more kick than a full size but that's to be expected. No problems with sighting mine in. I did a BS zero and it shoots better than I can. If you want it get it. I also have one of the first ones made so that may be why I'm not experiencing the same problems as guys with newer ones. Overall a very good rifle.

I think the socom looks really cool in a USGI wood stock.

I have both, and my SOCOM has a good bit "less" recoil than my full size.

I've shot one and I thought the recoil was less than my loaded also.

i second that, i think my socom has less recoil and muzzle rise than the full length barrel models.

I believe the SOCOM has less recoil due to the muzzle brake/porting.

It did not seem like it had any appreciable recoil especially considering it is a .308.

Plus, wouldn't the recoil be less from the loss of velocity?  Isn't in the 2500 or so fps range at that point?
But yes I agree the muzzle device has something to do with it too.  At least that's what all the experts say.  If you took a hot .30-30 and shot it out of a rifle of the socoms stature, it seems to me that  it would be a pussy cat.  My marlin .30-30 aint too bad and it probably weighs less than 7lbs soaking wet.  For some reason my dad's winchester lever is more jarring though.
