I thought I saw a post on this before but I can't find it. What are peoples thoughts on some of the compact Binoculars out there? Steiner Cabela Etc. etc |
|
I am a Swaro guy but I have found that Steiner is about the best bang for the buck. Their quality lacked a few years back but they stepped up to the plate. I am looking at their Peregrines for $999 which are close quality wise to the Swaro EL's for much more. Go to SWFA.com and click on the Samplelist link to the lower left! There you will find some 8X56 Swaro Nighthunters which are the best low light optic I have ever seen and they are about $500. Daryn |

You can spend a lot of $$$ on binos, so knowing your applications may help save some $$$. Marine-rated binos are sealed and nitrogen filled, while cheaper binos may not be sealed as well or as rugged. Personally, a cheap $40 set of binos that I have beats the $500 set of binos that I want. I picked up some Tasco binos on sale for $49 and they work great for me. Also consider a $15 monacle (Bushnell) as a real alternative when you're saving space. If you're not glassing constantly, you may not appreciate full size binos like you would the monacle. |
As noted by another poster, www.swfa.com is a good source. www.swfa.com/pc-7000-28-new-canon-7x42-awp-binocular.aspx www.swfa.com/c-26-leupold-binoculars.aspx www.swfa.com/c-321-leupold-green-ring-cascades-binoculars.aspx www.swfa.com/c-164-steiner-safari-binoculars.aspx |

After spending time at the Cloudy Nights forum with all the astronomers I found that Oberwerk makes some killer binocs glass and while compacts are not their real thing (astronomical binocs are and after using a pair of the 20x60s here for 109 bucks shipped: www.opticsplanet.net/oberwerk-binoculars.html, I have been highly impressed with them - they are better than my 10x Nikons which cost twice as much) they do have some smaller 8x binocs at a reasonable price I would not hesitate to try. YMMV, but my ACOG and last EO were purchased from these guys at a very reasonable price and shipped quickly. The binocs & tripod ordered were no different shipped free and quick. mike |
