Some years back Speer offered, or still offers Hot-Cor bullets. I recall in the past reviews that suggested bonded bullet performance or close to it.
Could baking existing jacketed rifle bullets such as a Remington .224 55gr SP or a Winchester .224 64gr Powerpoint to a temperature just hot enough to liquify the lead core and get it to solder to the jacket do the job? I'm guessing something on the order of a heat treatment oven would be required. |

Yeah shure,
Just heat it up to 3/4 of the melting temp of the copper jacket (.75*1,984° F= 1,488) for 30 minutes to give the atoms time to wiggle around. Also, I think "they" use a "flux" to help the lead bond to the copper. You wont be able to get the flux in between the lead and copper. The copper jacket will now be very soft. copper needs to be "work hardend". Good luck and don't burn the house down. |

Much better ideas
Look for the 64 gr Fusion pulled bullets Rocky Mountain Reloading had some at one time Cough up dough for Nosler 60 gr Partitions Look at Nosler's Pro Shop for seconds perhaps you can score a deal on some partitions... Hold your breath but Nosler is coming out with a 22 Cal "bonded bullet" in 2013. Hopefully it will not take as long as ome of the bulets they have introducted and then take a year or more to get to dealer shelves ie 6mm 90gr Accubond they showed up 18 months later....or their 7mm Custom Comp bullets....they have not shown up after 9 months. |

Those partitions are awesome. Shot a buck this year with them first time using them hit it front shoulder hole size silver dollar enterance and exit looked same bullet not recovered allso shattered shoulder bone. I was really impressed with that 60 grainer Quoted:

Fusion? ELECTROPLATED
Same as the Speer Gold Dot. Federal WILL NOT use the evil term "electroplated" on their site, nor will Speer, but the fact remains, they are NOT "bonded" but rather plated-on jackets. Take a look at this website (particularly step 2): http://www.fusionammo.com/technology.aspx Electroplating, however, is GREAT! Fusion is a very effective hunting bullet, and the Gold Dot is extremely effective for defense. I have seen countless plated bullets (of all brands) that were smashed against steel targets & still pieces of "jacket" (plating) sticking to the bullet core. It is as (or more) effective than chemical bonding or other tricks to glue an alloy jacket to a lead core. |
