Hello

Mounting a 51T Brakeout an factory AR10A4 16" infantry carbine barrel.

Without shims, the mount "bottoms out" on the muzzle face and does not index correctly.

Putting on full shim pack also does not make a difference, still too much thread on the muzzle or threaded portion of mount too deep (Take your pick.)

Seems like the correct way to solve this problem would be to have a smith trim off about 1/8" of barrel and recrown? Assuming :

a.) this still keeps me over 16" length on barrel
b.) if I drop below 16" the Brakeout gets pinned / welded / silver soldered in place after the cutting.

Anyone else have this issue? If so, how did you address?

Thanks

The breakout is exclusively for a 1/2x28 thread pitch, hence the 1/8" gap. You'll have to shim it, cut it, or get a new mount.

Actually not so, Brakeouts come in 5/8x24 for the 308 thread pattern.

I know, as I have one. It threads on fine, just doesnt index correctly.

The new 51 three prong solves this problem.  There is a vast difference in manufactures 308 barrels for some odd reason.  My m110 barrel has really long threads as well and I can only use the new 3 prong blackout on it.

I would send it to a smith and have him cut and recrown it.

5/8 refers to diameter not length. A 1/2x28 would not even thread all the way on to a 5/8x24 thread.
