Two interesting discoveries this weekend.

1)  Does S&B sometimes make straight-up copper casings for 9mm sometimes?  After a round of of wet tumbling, look at these 3 S&B casings.  2 of them are fine, and as normal.  Yet 1, is copper, identical in color to copper piping (the picture only comes out so good).

I've never seen that before, except in copper washed steel casings (which are always Berdan primed, and this is Boxer).

2) GFL brass has the worst off-center flash holes I've ever seen in my life.  Look at this!

Just a headsup, because I almost broke a decaping pin on this, since it's so off center.

It's not copper but steel. As I understand it, copper binds to brass better than steel itself, so they copper plate them and then brass plate. GFL brass has that reputation and it's caused some press manufacturers to change their warranty policies because of these inconsistencies in brass cases.

Turns out, you are correct.  I just tested, and it is indeed a steel casing.  I did not know they made steel 9mm.  Now I do.  Thanks.

GFL does have terribly off center flash holes. I go slow when resizing those so I don't bend any decapping pins. I use GFL for practice rounds sometimes and where I'm not too concerned if i get the brass back.

I run a magnet over each S&B case. I separate them out because they have tight primer pockets, so I ream them out.

Your title made me think of what I found today at the range. Looks like a .40cal fired in a 45ACP.

Wet tumbling is hard on the brass coated steel cased S&B 9mm.

I just got some GFL .222 Rem brass from my friend and its fine. Yes two-twenty-two. The flash holes are centered well.

Most of my Perfecta 5.56 brass has way off-center flash holes. PMC 5.56 has the tightest crimps. Both are heavy at about 98-102gr after processing.

Dang, that is PMP kind of heavy. I have 500 to 1K GFL cases a friend gave me, looks like they are going into the case of last resort.

I'm not a brass snob by any means but I do stay away from a couple of different brands of brass.

s&b
wolfe
prefecta
americ
gfl

To name a few. They just aren't worth the trouble to reload with, especially in 9mm.
