Any advice before I go onine and order another. It is for RCBS 223. First time I have broken one. A spent primer from another shell fell into the shell I was de-capping and caused it to break.
I am assuming it will be fairly easy to replace. But before I spend the money which by the time I pay shipping I could almost buy another die set anything I should know? I am fairly new to this. Thanks |

Easy to replace? Yes. At least you have a good excuse. Make sure your expander stem has not assumed an "S" curve, however so slight. RCBS will (did for me anyway) replace whatever got bent/broken there.
Someone made what I thought was a good suggestion the other day on here. When replacing the decapping pin and/or the expander ball and stem, push a case up into the die as though you are doing a normal sizing/decapping stroke, only do not extract it. Then loosen and retighten the new stem retaining lock nut to assure it is held in the center of the die body. RCBS tries to rely on thread to thread engagement for alignment. That works sometimes. |

Thanks Order enough to have spares on hand. You know why now. |

If you can't find them and need one right away, it's possible to make one. I once made one using a hardened trim nail. As I remember it, I had to chuck the trim nail in a drill and dress it down a few thousandths with sandpaper to get it to fit the collet on the die stem.
Next time you place an order from a reloading supply, order some extras. I always keep spares in my parts box. |
