Gentlemen

I'm getting my great-grandfathers Auto 5 (Belgium 1920's we think) shortly.

Can any of you direct me towards some good resources to learn more about the antique? I don't know tons about it, and it will be my first non-black gun. Once I get it I'll figure out how to post pictures and post pictures.

Thanks

I have a soft spot for the Browning long-recoil action...  would you believe it's the great-grandfather of the Remington 870?

The Browning A-5 is my favorite shotgun.  Mine was made in Belguim right after WWII when the restarted manufacturing again.  The Browning has one feature that is not on the Remington Model 11 copy (Savage copied it too) and that is the magazine cut off located on the bottom front left side of the reciever.  Rotate it rearward to engage and change out round for different one.  Gun was first developed in 1900 by John M. Browning and first successful semi auto shotgun.  It was designed to handle both black and smokeless powder loads.  Earlier guns have the safety in front of the trigger guard (like a M1 Garand or Mini 14) and later post WWII guns had the safety moved to a cross bolt behind the trigger.  Enjoy your family heirloom.
