I have a 16" AR with a mid length gas system. This AR will be suppressed with a Gemtech Trek 100% of the time. I am currently running a Heavy buffer and a low profile non-adjustable gas block.
Will the heavy buffer suffice, or would I be better served by picking up an H2 or perhaps even an ST-T2 buffer? Thoughts are welcome. |

Adding a heavy buffer just addresses the symptoms and not the problem which is too much gas. Heavy buffers also add unnecessary reciprocating mass. Why do that when it worked fine with a lighter buffer to begin with? I do all my full auto testing with an H2 buffer. H2 buffer is all you need to kill bolt/carrier bounce in full auto. If not running full auto, H buffer is fine if controlling the gas. Heavy buffers don't help in reducing the amount of fouling coming into the action. Only controlling the gas is going to do that for you. We make a patented, modular tool-less adjustable gas block based on actual port sizes pictured below. ![]() But sounds like you don't want to mess with an adjustable gas block and you are going to be suppressed 100% of the time. A low cost alternative would be our 'baby Govnah' pictured below: At only $20 it is the ideal solution for reducing your port size. ![]() A .043 hole is pre-drilled and you just open it up to your desired size. I personally would still recommend a Govnah even if you are doing 100% suppressed so you can have one setting for optimal suppressed and another to give you more gas for adverse conditions or weaker ammo. H Buffer should work just fine, on a 16" barrel length with a Trek. My DDMK18 10.3" Bbl has an H2 buffer, and runs great both suppressed & unsuppressed. Joey |

Sure it will work fine but it will definitely run faster suppressed even with an H2. Below is a video taking at high speed (480FPS) showing the difference between regulated and unregulated. Both are shot at the same 480 FPS and the first shot is at the same time. Both videos are the exact same gun, fired in full auto 10 rounds, M855, H2 buffers in BOTH. Only difference is the one in the lower right is regulated. There was so much gas coming out of the unregulated that it fouled up the glass in front of the camera. If you look closely, you can also see more recoil on the unregulated. I could feel the buffer bottoming out. VS the regulated, you can barely make out any gas coming out of the ejection port and 3 rounds are fired after the unregulated has finished its 10 rounds since it is about 200 RPM slower when regulated vs unregulated Joey, I just emailed you earlier today regarding the Titianium HALO's I put on order... please reply. Thanks! Quoted:
