I got one of these in the mail, and tried putting it on today. Only problem is, I can't get the scews loose on that damn metal plate that I replaces. Anybody got suggestions?

Try some penetrating oil, or liquid wrench.

I had the same problem with my PTR.  I soaked the screws in penetrating oil, then mounted the buttstock in a padded vise, and used a properly sized gunsmith screwdriver with a cheater bar (a t-handle type thing) to unscrew them using LOTS of downforce to keep the bit from camming out.  It worked like a charm.

If you have a drillpress and a long enough hex base screwdriver bit, you can do it even safer by mounting the bit in the chuck, securing the stock to the drill press table, bring the bit into the screw slot, and twist the chuck with a cheater rod to remove the screws.  This will absolutely keep the bit from camming out and damaging the screw.  I didn't want to fool with all this, so I tried the easier way first.
