Seems a bit smoky, firing cast 9mm 115gr bullets. Is this normal?

I'm afraid so, It makes a good paper puncher in 9MM and 38 Special.
I shoot a lot of it but it is a bit sooty and smokey.

It's more likely the lube on the cast bullet causing the smoke
It's been too many years snce I've shot BE with a jacketed bullet, but seemed like it wasn't too smoky.

Some of the smoke is the Bullseye, most of the smoke is the lube on the bullet burning off.
There is some smoke with any powder with cast bullets.
Not to worry.

As already said, it's more than likely the bullet lube.

Yes. Bullseye + cast boolits = lots of smoke, IME.

I keep 8# of Bullseye on hand at all times. It's the most consistant powder you can burn for target loads. It's all I load in non-Magnum pistol calibers.
231 has less smoke, but more grit left in your gun - accelerating wear.
