I just picked up a CBC 22 at a great price FREE !!! It's in great shape and I don't know much about this model of CBC other than its a version of Remington's model 66 nylon. Any info about this rifle and any upgrades that can be done to it or if I should just leave it as is (plain Jane) would be great.
THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY INFO ! |

It's pretty much a straight copy of the Nylon 66. The nylon is self lubricating. At most, give the metal parts a light coat of oil. Don't oil the action. Also, don't take apart the action beyond removing the receiver cover. The Nylon 66 rifles have a well deserved reputation for being very difficult to put back together. Just make sure the bore is clear, get some ammo, and go have fun.

I've got one of the CBC guns. Pretty good for what it is. While it's not a high-mileage gun (in fact, I never really shot it that much), it always ran well and was pretty accurate with CCI Mini-Mags.
I'll second the opinion about not detail stripping it. A few years ago, I decided to give my daughter one of my .22 rifles. Thought I'd give her the CBC because it's light and easy to hold. I detail stripped it to give it a thorough cleaning before giving it to her and it took me 2 freakin' days to get it back together, after taking about 30 minutes to take apart. I will NEVER do that again! I ended up giving my daughter my 10/22. Bottom line- a pretty good gun, for what it is, a cheap .22 plinker. I'd rather have a 10/22, but it's a pretty good gun. Bub75 |
