| MY 223 loads with this powder are ejecting at two, two thirty while my loads with h355 and w748 eject at four, four thirty. factory round eject the same four, four thirty. I tried 55gr, 69gr, 77gr bullets with the same results. I used load data from hornadys book started low and stayed about a half a grain under max(tried 223 and 5.56 data) and got the same ejection pattern. I don,t see signs of pressure in the primers or brass. The loads are accurate and everything runs fine so I don't think I need to worry about it just want to be sure before I move forward. I'm only asking because I've read that 12 to 3 ejection can be a pressure sign. What do you guys think? |
| SWAGging this one, but CFE223 is slower than H335 and generates higher pressures as well. You have more gas and pressure than with H335 and you are getting an ejection pattern that corresponds to an overgassed system. If there are no other pressure signs I wouldn't worry about it and keep shooting. If you have an adjustable gas block a few clicks should fix it if it bothers you. |

CFE-223 and BL-C2 are nearly identical powders and both have the higher charge weights for any given bullet than any other powder. In other words, they are the slowest powders normally used to load .223. While creating acceptable chamber pressures with higher charge weights, they produce much more port pressure simply because of the volume of powder being burned.
What you are experiencing is normal and is to be expected in any semi-auto rifle. The same principle applies when choosing powders when loading M1 Garands and M1-A's. Slower powders use higher charge weights to achieve maximum pressure with any given bullet. The larger powder charge produces more gas and therefore more pressure at the port. |
| By comparison, though, does not the ejection pattern change if switching from a mag of .223 herters cheap stuff to 5.56 ss109? After all these years, I have not paid attention to the difference. I have, although, also noticed a difference in ejection between H335 and CFE223. |
