The South Store has had 1903s, A3s, 1917s, and Krags every time I've gone. Usually the Krags are very rough or have been chromed. I want one, but haven't seen the one that calls my name yet.

Dad told me that years ago there was an American Legion post in Ford, KS that had racks of Krags. He didn't know what happened to them when they closed but there were probably a lot of old VFW and AL posts around the country that had them. When they closed or upgraded to 1903's or M1's, they probably turned in their Krags to the Army and the Army eventually gave them to the CMP. Some could have come from the museum system too. That's where a lot of the 1911's and some of the 1911A1's came from, IIRC.

The stock I could fix but at that price you should not have to. My 1903 was from the Greek returns. $250 iirc. Maybe $290? 1929 built, rebarrelled. Stock had a greek beech wood patch on the heel. Expertly done but I still replaced the stock wit a C stock. The 1917 is the only gap in my U.S. battle rifle collection. They’re cool but Iiked the 03 better due to the shorter stock length. Technically my 03 is not a WW1 representation either being a decade late. a 6mm Lee Navy would be cool but one just doesn’t see them. I also lack a trapdoor. |

Just submitted my paperwork for a service grade 1917 today.
If I get a painted stock or a chromed 1917 I'm going to lose my shit. |

Many years ago I picked up a brand new, in the box unfired 40X from the Camp Perry store for less than the cost of the sights on it alone.
They had a full pallet of them, all brand new. |

I recall having to inventory ours in the armory, they were heaped like cordwood in generic lockers. I doubt there will ever be more than a smattering of them now. Did someone say they were going to release another batch!? |

Was at the North store last Saturday. They have a TON of 1917s, both Service and Rack grade. There's some really nice examples in both.
They have 1903s and 1903A3s in lessor numbers, but still have some nice ones. Sales to competitors only for the 1903s. They have a whole section of .308 M1s and M1s of all condition levels. The expert Winchesters are NICE, but pricey. My buddy just retired from the NG, after being active Army for about 10 years. He got one look at the rifles at the CMP and asked what he needed to do to qualify to buy them. When they told him he just needed his DL and military ID, it was on. One M1 Expert grade (Winchester), two M1917s, and 400 rounds of 30-06 later, he was a happy man. The next day, he went back and bought a M1D (Service grade, I think. I'm a little fuzzy on that one) and a M1903A3. (Yeah, I don't know how he pulled that one off) and 200 rounds of 30-06 on Enblocs. |

I haven't seen them post anything further on the Krags. They did say mid to late July, and I guess we are still within that time frame. I'm mildly curious as to what they have and what the prices will be.

Conditions were similar, some in painted stocks (white). The couple I looked at would probably be Field-ish grade, but I did not look down the barrel. I don't recall if the hang tags had grades on them or not, but I don't think they did. They looked like surplus rifles that had seen moderate use. |

Glad I ran across this thread. Been trying to downsize my collection. Hopefully with the CMP running out of '03s I can offload mine a bit easier. Though looking through these pictures, wonder how long until I regret it. Got a nice display with my 1918a3, grand, '03 and carbine my wife bought me when we first started dating.

Called the CMP yesterday. Like a few people I put a order in June for an 03. Never heard back about errors in the form or shipping and just an outstanding check that never clears.
So called them up yesterday just to make sure I was not an idiot and fouled something up. Spoke to a super nice lady who said they should start processing them any day now and to expect contact in the next week or so So, patiently waiting.. |

Put an order for an 03 service grade the day they announced. A few weeks ago, got a call saying they were out of SG and asked if I wanted a FG or RG. I switched to a FG. Never got a shipping notice, but a couple days ago, a very nice Remington 03 showed up. I am surprised it was a FG and not graded a SG. It was in great condition with barrel readings of 1,2.
