I'm in a potential deal to get a potential Garand.
I know nothing about Garands except that we used them in WWII and a couple of other places, 30-06 and .308. But other than that, nothing. Can you guys tell me the difference in the WWII/USGI Garand and a CMP Garand and anything else that I should know about them? Thanks |

CMP rifles are from the 1940's - 1950's. You need to check the receiver serial number and manufacturer to figure out when made and maybe where used (WW2 or Korea).
Get a book about them to find out more. Then check the bore and throat using a gauge to determine the quality of the barrel. Then if you want to go further - check all parts to see how correct it is. They are fun to shoot - loud but fun. And fairly accurate for plinking. |

If you are going to buy a Garand from an individual, you really need to read up on them or find a friend that is knowledgeable. You can certainly find deals in the open market but buying through the CMP is a much safer bet. All rifles are as listed and you will be more assured of getting a good one. They are really backed up with orders at this time but turn in your paper work and be patient. They will get your order out as quickly as they can.
