My father saw that CMP had M1 carbines getting ready to sell to the public and he's wanted one ever since he had shot one in the 1970's.  So, I emailed CMP to determine if he qualifies for purchase of a rifle.  My email is as follows:

Dear CMP Customer Service,

I am writing this email on behalf of my father.  My father is a retired police officer from Bristol, CT and is a member of the Bristol Retired Police Officer's Association.  The association is a non-profit organization that is self funded and donates to charities on a regular basis.  Does this satisfy the requirement for membership in an affiliated club with the CMP?  His age is 68 and he is also a member of the Bristol Fish and Game Club and has a concealed carry license. Could you please email me back regarding my question on behalf of my father?

Thank you for your attention in this matter.

I received a response momentarily from the Customer Service department and the email is as follows:

Sir,  If your father  has an ID or something showing his retirement status. that is all that will be required of him to meet all requirements to purchase from us.

However, the Bristol Fish and Game Club is not an affiliated club but under the requirements it does specify Professional Law enforcement organizations or associations.  Does this mean, all that he has to show is his membership that states that he is a retired police officer and is in the association?  I am still confused.  From what I understand from the email, he is all set to go as long as he files a copy of his retirement membership card with the CMP.

PLEASE HELP ME.  IT WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED....TIA!!

I think they pretty much covered it in their reply. I'm assuming the Police association is a recognized club and of course the police training covers the safety requirements so you should be good to go. If you need any kind of permits in CT for rifles then you should also include a copy of that with your order.

Here's the order form: CMP It should have the requirements on it. You can also go to the "Ask Orest" section of their forum if you have more questions. CMP Forum

Thanks for responding/

Now that I keep reading the email over, it is a professional law enforcement association and it should qualify as an affiliated club.  Hopefully everything should go well in the next month or so when he sends in the order for the carbine.

Again thank you for the quick reply.

If for some reason he still needed to join an affiliated club, you can't beat this one for $25/yr. They even send their member list directly to the CMP.
