Finally gotten the funds (very tight existance) to get a CMP Garand, to find that a couple of days ago they ran out of Service Grade. So, it seems that it's a Rack Grade or nothing, and I'm wondering if I'd be better served to hit Gunbroker and save up a couple hundred more. Definately want one, just trying to decide if Rack Grade would serve me for a while before needing a rebuild, not planning on putting more than 1000 rnds downrange in a year, probably much less. |

My CMP Garand which I consider a rack grade but with NM sights, 50's International Harvester with an exterior condition of fair (a lot of bluing are gone), stock looks very dark and mismatched but the internal condition is excellent. One time three of our friends, my uncle and father went shooting with all our CMP Garands and I tried all of their rifles, 10 shot groups at 100 yd and my bad looking rifle had the tightest group out of the six rifles. I don't know what's the current procedure in buying a CMP Garand but when I got mine a long time ago I had to shoot a match which I used my AR-15A2 HBAR rifle and submit all the required paperwork and waited for a couple of months for USPS delivery. Just get the rack grade now you might get lucky. |
