Hey guys, I missed on the Garands last time around, so i want to make sure i have everything in order for when they get more Garands in. I have a quesion about the Marksmanship requirment.. CMP says "Certification from range or club official or law enforcement officer witnessing shooting activity. A form for use in completing and certifying your range firing can be downloaded from the CMP web site at http://www.odcmp.com/forms/marksmanship.pdf" Does this mean i can simply go to a shooting range and ask the range master to watch me shoot, and sign a piece of paper? Or is it more complex than that? Thanks |
It's a little more complicated than that and at the same time, easier. I believe the shooting requirement calls for an organized NRA certified type match. They have added a hundred other ways to meet this requirement though; C&R license, CCW, DD214, even a Boy Scout match is satisfactory nowadays. Plenty of time to work on it. I don't think they're expecting any rifles before October. |

I qualify by being a veteran, current LE, but by reading the form you linked I believe you could qualify as Hoppy mentioned easily in AZ. Get your CCW. Depending where you are in AZ, there are free CCW classes I believe but they may have long waiting lists. Paying for the class may be easier. Sounds as though a range master at a number of AZ ranges could do this if you went out for a couple of rounds of skeet or trap. The part of being a member of a CMP affiliated club is easy. There is one here on the board you can join for $10.00. If in Tucson you can find range info here |
They all as far as I know follow the NRA safety course , when you took your didn't you have to fire a rifle or shotgun at the end. The one my club gives is on a skeet range. |
I had a LEO friend sign off for me, but yes, it is be that simple. |
