Gotcha!!! Actually the GCA Journal, Fall 2008 edition has a cover pic and nice article on the 1000+ NM M14s that the CMP received from Uncle Sugar. Great photos and verbage as always..... a must see. Just remember to wipe the drool, its tough on the paper pages.

Yep. Orest has said several times that it doesn't matter whether CMP would be allowed to sell semiauto M14s or not, because the Army doesn't have any surplus M14s. It needs them all right now. -Mark |

Not what was in the article: Guys the first paragraph under the picture on the left of the (4) M14s states: CMP has more than 1000 Match M14 rifles turned in by the US Army......" It may be a typo but thats what they say....  And they do say that they are not going anywhere soon!!! Appears that the CMP is keeping them for now. |
Read the above post, they were received from the US Army and are staying at the CMP for now...... |
They ought to suck them back up from the military schools. I graduated from VMI- we had 1500 there. Granted, most, if not all, would take some reworking... |

Well that's what they say but it is true that CMP recalled the club rifles that were on loan. For the most part I believe it was because they were too nervous about the class III firearms being on their books anymore. I'm not sure the Army would want them back if they've been welded on. Just a hunch though. |
Yes and no: (99.9999% yes and .0001% NO) The article states that the TRW NM rifle in the ATF ruling was only for that particular rifle.... and eludes to the assumption that if maybe someone was willing to take it to court again, that the "semi-auto only" TRW NM rifles could be allowed for civilian sales... Probably not in our lifetime...  Very interesting.... Sorry about the title....  But you guys wouldnt have read it if it was worded differently...... "Ban him" sounds like something Biden would say!!!

Actually they would be VERY VERY cheap... The military does not register NFA weapons... so these weapons are NOT transferable... and if the military did want to register them they cannot even be registered as post 86 dealer samples... they would have to be registered on ATF form 10's... and can ONLY be transfered to Govt agencies and PD's... |
| It's could be possible for CMP to pursuade ATF to go with the TRW NM's for release seeing as though they were never made with the full auto components installed. If those are actually released, I guarantee they will be auction only and will command quite the premium. Real transferrable TRW M14's are the most desirable of the rifle, even over the Winchester. They are usually $25K+ if you ever can find one. |
Jesus Christ will return before the Army/CMP releases any M14's into the civilian world. Even the NM M14's you described. |

They will break them down for parts to sell if the army lets them, for what M14 parts go for these days they could get about $400 possibly more per rifle just for the parts. There would be great intreast in Unitized gas cylinders, NM trigger groups, reamed flash hiders, REAL GI NM/2A rear sight assemblies, op-rods, bolt assemblies etc etc.... |
I agree and it will probably never happen. Jesus Christ returning with NM TRW M14's would be cool!

Excellent. I never knew that. As an a side Q, are the ones with the bronze plugs soldered in the chamber scrap? My unit had them in the '80s for color guard. IIRC they also had the knob welded. Hurt my eyes just to see that rod and bronze sticking out of the barrel throat. |

Gotcha -- That's Funny, but this is even funnier! --".....the Army needs all the M14's it can get" I remember years ago reading a artical where the Army was melting down, or chooping up 100's of thousands M14's that they had on hand -- and many more were given away to piss ant nations as freebes! Oh well, your tax money at work and handled by r e a l s m a r t people! |
