They are the little screws used to lock the big screws in the bottom of the triggerguard / magazine box of the Mauser.

It's a screw used to keep the action screws in place.  They'd screw the action screws in and then lock them in place with the capture screws.  It's pretty anal, IMO, but it was a neat touch, especially considering that the Germans usually serialized everything, even the screws.
